As many of you know by now, I finally got up the courage to put
together a book on demand made up of about twenty of my scenarios where the
American Indians do somewhat better than they did historically when they
encountered Europeans. If you’ve been reading my newsletters regularly you'll
recognize a lot of the best scenarios from them, along with a lot of scenarios
that are new
to you.
I did do a lot fact-checking, grammar checking, and editing. I found that I
could usually reduce the word count on a scenario by about ten percent without
losing information, and the result was usually clearer than the
original. I
also tried to make the scenarios flow together effectively, removing
duplications and referring to other scenarios to provide context. I think that
the result is a pretty good book. I’m happy with it.
I did the design for the front cover myself. It was my attempt to use Adobe
Illustrator and I think it turned out fairly well. Of course I’m a tad biased.
As you may have figured out, I am proud and excited about this, and I could
write twenty pages about it. I won’t though. I’ll just give you a brief
overview of what is in it and how to order it if you don’t already have that
information.
The book is all scenarios. It doesn’t include any of the Indian AH fiction
that I’ve done. I was originally going to put “Ruins of New England” in
it, but I started looking over the story and realized that I could probably go
back and rewrite it to make a much stronger story. I didn’t want to get bogged
down doing that, so I just left it out.
I went back and skimmed through the book, trying to view it with a relatively
unbiased eye. There are some strong scenarios in there. If you like the
American Indian parts of the Newsletter, you'll enjoy the book.
In any case, the book is available on-line through
Booklocker.com
It is also available through Amazon.com. It will probably take a little
longer through them because they have to go through Booklocker. You can also
special-order it through most local bookstores. You’ll probably need the ISBN,
which is 1-59113-179-0. It’s a trade paperback, 208 pages long, and costs
$15.95.
In any case, I think this ended up being a pretty good book. If you like what
you’ve seen in my AH Newsletters, check it out.
