POD is an amateur press magazine and also a forum for discussing AH and AH-related ideas.  A lot of the comments don't make sense unless you've following the dialogue.  Here are some of my general-interest ones.

ISSUE NOTES

Another Long Hiatus?  I've been having too many of those lately.  Hopefully I'll get back on a more regular schedule next year.  I wrote the bulk of this issue in January and February, and had the print edition ready on time for the late February/early March collation.  Unfortunately, most of the print edition was taken up by excerpts from my novels, and for marketing reasons I can't put more than a tiny fraction of those novels on-line.

As a result I decided to wait until I had something more substantial before I put up the on-line edition.  Unfortunately, legal wrangling (see It's Been a Quiet Couple of Months for details) and two deaths in the fairly immediate family (my mother-in-law and my sister's mother-in-law) has taken up most of what would have been my writing time.  What little writing I've done has been to finish up an extensive rewrite of my novel Bear Country.  Finally I just decided to go with what I had in this issue rather than waiting any longer.  So this is going to be a rather skimpy issue, probably the skimpiest in five or six years.

The next issue may be a while.  The legal wrangling I'm involved in will extend until at least mid-December.  I would like to get in at least one more issue this year, but I wouldn't count on it.

This issue:
I have an excerpt from Mars Looks Different.  I have a piece (unfortunately not very informative) on a real life drama I'm involved in.  I have extensive comments on the idea of a Japanese invasion of Hawaii.  That was inspired by Turtledove's Days of Infamy, but doesn't directly address the scenario presented in the book.  I also have a collection of scenario seeds and the usual comments on previous issues of POD--kind of an off-the-top-of-the head brainstorming session.

POD members will got the final chapters of the novel Char and another section of Bear Country, They'll also get another Monday-morning general challenge.

In the pipe-line: More Monday-morning general challenges, plus some hopefully fresh perspectives on some of the most discussed events of World War II.

This page has had hits since I posted it on September 21, 2005.
